European housing is by and large not designed for heat waves. Only around 20% of European homes have air-conditioning. It not being practical to rebuild all the houses, the only real solution to the increasing heatwaves in Europe is more air-conditioning. However most air-conditioning emits atmosphere pollutants like hydrochlorofluorocarbons and carbon dioxide. What to do? This idea is that more resources be put into cutting edge research in refrigerant materials and pollution free air-conditioning systems. If this can be solved, then together with renewables and battery power, keeping people cool could become a cheap and emissions free exercise. This idea is for governments to encourage more research money into this research to solve this final piece of the jigsaw puzzle.
