choose patriotism not nationalism

George Orwell described patriotism as the kinder older brother to the more aggressive nationalism. Essentially, patriotism does not assume the exceptionalism of your own country. And if you don't assume you are above everyone else, you are less likely to take your country to war. Nationalism is of course bullshit as not every country can be 'the best country in the world', and if you didn't know it already, I can tell you that is exactly what most poor leaders tell their people. ' So I say if we can all just embrace patriotism but not nationalism, the world will be a better place for it. "Make sport, not war."
