Following on from last week's idea that "For every $1 spent on fossil-fuel derived energy use, $0.01 is automatically diverted into a global climate fund." I vote this be increased to 20%. AI estimates we spend over $5 trillion US on travel each year, which sounds about right. Like all things, the highest percentage is spent by the wealthier countries. Compared to a global lockdown which we did for Covid, a 20% levy would enable everyone to live semi-normal lives while we clean up the world and give ourselves a chance, at least, to avert an even bigger crisis: global biodiversity loss and climate catastrophe.
