Make recycling fun
Smart bin sensors could be used to track compliance with separating household and business waste into cardboard/glass recycling, trash, and organic waste. Participating households or businesses with high compliance could be rewarded with small utility credits. Businesses generating high waste volumes could face small levies to fund the program. Eventually, suburb-based recycling rates could be published in newspapers, fostering friendly competition and community pride, all the while behavioural changes are being driven towards more sustainable practices across all demographics.
