Investing in the future of refrigeration
The cooling sector currently accounts for ~8% of global greenhouse gas emissions. 3% of total global emissions are attributed to the direct leakage of volatile refrigerants from their devices due to improper maintenance and disposal.
With rising global temperatures and the rise of the global middle class, these figures are projected to rapidly surge in coming decades.
Right now there are people around the world working on new ways of refrigerating without emissions, for example developing phase change materials. the world needs to support these researchers.
A lot more funding should be directly committed to cleaning up this sector.
