Media to give historical facts
Free Media is useless if it reports only the words of tyrants.
I may have watched and read, without trying, around 100 hours of news on the war in Europe over the past three years, and read the equivalent in news stories.
Not once have I read or viewed it reported that when the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics was formed in the early 20th century, Article 26 of the agreement on which the Union was based said clearly that any country could opt out at any time. Ukraine elected to opt out in 1991 by a vote of 92% of the people of that country, and that is why they are an independent country.
Now, we all know this fact will not be published in the nation state that is conducting the invasion. But if this was made clear in the media elsewhere, perhaps the world would pick up the slack that the US is dropping right now.
Nobody's borders are safe while this insipid response from the world continues. My theory is that the insipid response is because people like Tucker Carlson and others report the words of the dictators and warped history sprouted by them, if any history at all.
Good reporting would put the war in context from time to time. People vote for leadership, and they need to do that knowing the facts.
