Keep fossil fuel lobbyists out of COPs
Cop 30 is turning into another beaurocratic stalemate, and it is not being helped by the number of fossil fuel related delegates:
Because they come in such numbers they take up a lot of bandwidth; they take up a lot of space, physically. They block book hotels … and then they take up bandwidth in terms of all the sideshows that take up delegates’ time, and they do that whole false solutions thing. tehy actually keep people would actually press for urgent action out of the Cop process.
Cop28 hosted nearly 2,500 fossil-fuel lobbyists – more than the combined delegations of many vulnerable nations and scientific institutions.
To quote Albert Norström, an associate professor at Stockholm Resilience Centre: "Their presence dilutes ambition, slows progress, and undermines trust. When vested interests dominate the room, the conversation shifts from urgent transition to incremental delay.”
COP 31 listen up, and keep them out or limited.
Thank you.
