The forced sale of Tik Tok to US business people just took as a second closer to midnight on the Doomsday Clock: 1. the Chinese interests that previously owned Tik Toc were not ideal. Algorithms seemed to be clearly directed to attention holding, and associated decline of critical thinking. 2. the new conglomerate that will own the platform are now a bunch of people beholden to Trump. These include the mega rich family behind the super partisan Fox News, and Oracle, which has been tasked with setting the new algorithms. Oracle is controlled by Larry Ellison who has a decade-long history with the Republican party and a close relationship with Trump going back to the president’s first term. Ellison has frequented Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort for dinners. 3. I would rather our kids be indoctrinated by a communist party than by a group of people so intent on keeping the rich richer, and the population in the thrall of Donald Trump, at the expense of all else. 4. the way to stop this Tik Tok on the Doomsday Clock is for people to demand Tik Tok be eventually transferred to a conglomerate of benevolent organizations instead. There are thousands of them in the world, too.
