I suggest a global tax surcharge on purchase of discretionary items that are imported, with a higher tax for items purchased from further away (say, one euro per kilogram for each 100 kilometres it needs to be transported - this can be done now with super computing?), with proceeds to go to a global clean up fund. It seems obscene to be purchasing packaged items from the other side of the world, with all the wrapping and fossil fuels used in producing it and getting it to you, without contributing to a fund to clean up the global environment.
