De extinction
Projects to de-extinct animals through gene editing technology is ramping up globally, as can be seen with projects on the wooly mammoth and the white wolves.
The thing is that in each case they are neither the same as the original, as they are being born with variations on the original genes and into a tiny gene pool that would not be survivable if they were in the wild.
two questions
1. Created animals cannot complain of aches pains and discomfort caused by wonky gene editing. How to we monitor and manage the suffering that we as humans cause to our creations?
2. Where do we put them? into a wild environment where they will kill and be killed, but in an ecosystem that is not prepared for them? Or in a cage?
I am not against all attempts to de extinct animals, but I invite rational responses to these questions from those that financially support these projects.
