hand in phones at start of school day

Too many schools either don't have a phone policy, or pay lip service to it. The statistics are in. Everyone, including the kids, know their phones are a complete disruptor in the school environment. We all know for a fact that big tech knows how to hijack their attention, well doe to them. But there needs to some safe spaces where we can help kinds to help themselves to get away from the distraction. Schools should be one such space. Last month, the Netherlands hailed its 18 month complete ban on smartphones in schools a success, saying it had vastly improved student concentration and socialisation. Apparently it was no walk in the park, though, with many kids initially struggling to socialise. One can imagine some of them would have been filthy about having to hand in their phones, that's for sure. But other studies of depriving kids from their phones are also showing magical imporvemnts in engagement, learning and mental health. It is a conversation that all governments need to be having.
