Salute to China on Climate Change
Congratulations to China on achieving a turn around in greenhouse emissions in the past year.
A report by the Center for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA) found that in the year to May 2025, China's CO2 emissions dropped 1.6 per cent.
China policy experts say this trend has continued in the months since.
It true the China is currently the world's biggest emitter, accounting for some 30 per cent of global carbon emissions, and they are building new coal fired power stations, that is also true.
But they are also building solar panels at the rate of 100 panels per second, and have been for some time. And they are using less coal, and using it more efficiently, as they wind down their reliance on fossil fuels.
The United States, historically one of the greatest polluters of the atmosphere, have been trending downward in emissions for many years now, but in terms of carbon emissions per person, the United States still produces significantly more than China. While China is the world's largest overall emitter of carbon dioxide, its per person emissions are lower than the US. In 2021, China's CO2 emissions per person were roughly 7.4 tonnes, while the US was around 14.1 tonnes.
So we now have USA and China trending downwards, which is great for the environment, and fantastic for future generations.
Global emissions are, however, rising. All countries need to do their part.
Science tells us that global emissions graphs need to fall off a cliff , if future generations are to be speared climatic catastrophe.
Come on world! We need to work together and support each other to get emissions down, everywhere. We need to keep communicating on this important topic and keep working together.
