Lets merge tree projects
You might ask why there is no global campaign to plant a trillion trees to help solve the climate disaster problem.
There is!
Actually, there are several. One is called the "Trillion Tree Campaign", launched at PlantAhead 2018 in Monaco by Plant-for-the-Planet. The project has an official website where you can register, monitor, and donate trees to reforestation projects around the world: trilliontreecampaign.org. The campaign is a continuation of the activities of the earlier Billion Tree Campaign, instigated by Wangari Maathai, who founded the Green Belt Movement in Africa in 1977.
Another is 1t.org announced at Davos in 2020, as part of the World Economic Forum’s efforts to accelerate nature-based solutions and was set up to support the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration.
There are thousands of tree planting projects around the world.
Wouldn't' it be great if they coordinated with each other, and the various land care groups around the world so that we could all be part of THE GRET GLOBAL EFFORT reforest the planet.
People like Bill Gates have mocked the trillion tree idea as promoting lack of diversity, but projects can of course be tailored to local environments, and if the big organizations coordinated with national and regional programs, then something really remarkable could happen.
But to make it fun, all we need to do is have a hu, - a center if you will - for tracking the progress of tree projects.
Imagine if one tree you planted counted towards a trillion tree project?
That might make watering seeds and planting trees fun for many people.
Imagine if even a small portion of the time you spent scrolling was instead spent potting seedlings and helping organize the biggest tree planting event in the world.
