Should we be worried about quantum computers
Efforts are being made to address the black box problem - being the difficulty in understanding how complex AI systems make decisions - through techniques like explainable AI (XAI). This is good, because we should understand the decision making processes that are becoming exponentially more prevalent in our lives.
Quantum computing is similarly beyond the understanding of most of us. When a functional quantum computer emerges, will the cryptography protecting our bank accounts and online information be compromised?
More processes like XAI should come alongside developments in technology. As a species we need to be informed to consent to the technologies that could ultimately be our demise.
