Freedom to roam
The freedom to roam is the general public's right to access certain public or privately owned land, lakes, and rivers for recreation and exercise. It's recognised in countries including Norway, Finland, Scotland, Iceland, Sweden. It increases the freedom of people, generally offering freedom to camp almost anywhere and is based on "leave no trace" moral guidelines.
It can enhance public health by encouraging people to get outdoors and connect with nature, promotes connection with the environment (crucial in our current context) and reduce stress on urban areas. Fundamentally, it is also equitable and inclusive. As an animal species, how did we ever lose this right to exist anywhere, as long as we are doing no harm? Freedom to roam should be adopted worldwide; maybe then we will begin to see our collective as one with the environment.
