Get kids into volunteering young
I propose a volunteer experience program in schools, similar to work experience, where students can choose where they want to volunteer, such as op shops or soup kitchens. This initiative aims to introduce kids to volunteering early, helping them build relationships and develop a lifelong habit of giving back to society.
By providing diverse volunteering options, students can explore different fields and find roles that resonate with their interests and strengths. This early exposure not only fosters empathy and compassion but also equips students with valuable skills like teamwork, communication and problem-solving.
The program would involve partnerships with local organisations to ensure structured and meaningful volunteer opportunities. Support and guidance would be provided to students to enhance their experience and ensure they gain the most from their involvement. Recognising and celebrating students' their contributions would positively reinforce the work.
Ultimately the program is designed to instill a sense of community responsibility in young people. It's not just about intention, but also about creating habits that encourage lifelong engagement in volunteer work. By getting students involved early, we can help them develop a strong foundation for giving back to society. That could make for a better world in 20 or so years.
