Pain and distraction
People in burns units who suffer excruciating pain at the time of bandage change, each day, can become unwell due to the large amounts of pain killers they have to take.
In an recent experiment, children in a burns unit were instead given a headset with a video game that had them skiing down a hill collecting objects and dodging obstacles. They reported feeling almost no pain while their bandages were being changed.
I am wondering whether some start up could develop headsets and videos to fit the interests of different people who experience intense pain in the community for use in all sorts of environments, maybe like the dentist chair for people who are allergic to anaesthetic, or even people who suffer pain at home.
