Lessons from Crowd Strike
The Crowd Strike outage has taught us a valuable lesson on so many levels:
Practical - back up your important information so it is not reliant on one computer or system.
Systemic - beware of reliance on computing technology to be able to live a normal life. All people and societies should not fall into the trap of being reliant on IT to live.
Philosophical - fortify yourself against disasters in life more generally. The way to do this is to develop your personal philosophy in a way that it can be used to console you when everything in life goes wrong, as it may at any time! This could mean reading the works of the great thinkers of history to see how they place human life in perspective - use their works not as lessons but as provocations and aids for you to develop your own theory of life, on which you will fall back when things go wrong.
