Classroom pets and plants
Well, may not in the actual classroom! But we know that keeping "classroom pets" teaches responsibility and empathy. It can also reduce stress and provide emotional support.
Giving kids something to take care of and feel responsibility for from a young age could be crucial to shaping them into empathetic adults. The idea is for it to become more common for classrooms to have something they are collectively responsible for, like a fish, or a horse in the paddock, or a plant in the room or a little veggie patch outside.
