It should be illegal for any organisation to make it complicated to cancel a subscription to their service if someone is not on a lock in contract. For example, people being told over the phone that they have to go in to a gym to cancel their membership is an outrageous money-grab. It should be legally enforced that companies immediately respect the desires of their clients to stop paying for a service, and those who make it intentionally challenging should be penalised.
