Harness the "peak end" rule

The peak end rule is a phenomenon that says the final moments of an event have the major influence on how we perceive the event in its entirety. If you have a great dinner with friends but get into a niggle at the end of the night, it puts a sour taste in your mouth when reflecting of the whole night, despite enjoying most of it. Alternatively, if you're having an average dinner with friends but spark up an interesting conversation towards the end of the night, you're more likely to look back on that night positively. We can harness this rule in many areas of our lives. And there is significant potential to apply this bias, to our benefit, in workplaces. Research shows that workers who end the day with a pleasant, simple task reflect on the work day more positively. There is a shift in society right now to improve working conditions, with many workplaces trialling 4-day workweeks or ADOs (accrued days off). This information could be useful for everyone to improve our outlook on work, possibly even incorporated into the structure of some workplaces.
