Transparent pricing
In Australia we have two main supermarkets, both of which made record profits in the last year among the current cost of living crisis here. Among the cost of living crisis - where the average household saw a decrease in disposable income of about 4.3%, which is the worst since the 1980s - our main supermarket chains upped their prices by about 10%.
- Governing bodies should have power to take a stronger stance on price gouging and protect consumers.
- Profit caps should exist for the sale of certain necessities.
- Transparent pricing.
On transparent pricing: in the same way that a supermarket will put a "reduced from" price on the ticket of something when they have reduced the price, I think they should also have to show what the price was 12 months ago, so it is clear when and how much the price changed. This could disincentive some of those absurdly large increases we have all see in recent times ...
