A UN treaty to regulate the recycling of e-waste at a global level
Electronic waste is our fastest growing stream of waste. It is also our most valuable. What is problematic is that people do not know this or understand its value, and are not informed on how to dispose of or recycle E-waste safely.
3.2 billion tonnes of e-waste come from toys alone, yearly. This is a large-scale problem, requiring significant action.
What could help? According to Magdalena Charytanowicz at the WEEE Forum, increased information, as well as a UN Treaty that binds countries to addressing e-waste issues, the way that countries are currently bound to recycling plastics.
You can watch her address the Forum online if you look it up.
