As the entire planet is at a tipping point, we need real incentives to alter our behaviour, not nudges. All nations should agree to a user pays on greenhouse emissions where it is feasible. One way is to put a fee on using AI, depending on how much you use. The energy used to train and run computers and servers that run AI models is only now becoming recognized as a problem. Of course, it would be less of a problem with a electricity grids powered by renewable energy. But in the meantime, how about a mandatory payment to a global climate change kitty for x number of watts used on accessing open AI. Likewise instead of voluntary offset payment on airline tickets, why not mandatory payments of 20% of the airline ticket price? Governments are frightened to do this but it is probably in their interest of everyone in the world including their constituents to take these decisions.
