Changing how we view water

I saw an idea on here last week about ways that people can cut down their water usage, and I think it is a very important message that should be shared more broadly. We need to change the way we view water. In the UK, households use an average of 144 L of water per day. Did you know that most of our drinking water comes from rivers? When water companies enforce hosepipe bans, they do so because they can't remove more water from rivers without causing serious environmental damage. According to the UK National Infrastructure Commission, England will need an extra 4 billion (yes Billion) L of water per day (yes, day) by 2050 due to climate change and an increased population. This increase in water usage will be ecologically damaging. Is there anything we can do about it? Yes. Shift the way we view water. In Denmark, water usage is only about 104 L per house per day. We all use much more water than we need to live comfortably. If we are conscious about our usage, we can cut back and reduce our impact on rivers and their ecosystems. So where you can, spread the message: turn the taps off.
