Decreasing real emissions > offsetting with credits

Carbon offsetting should not come instead of actually reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Though carbon credits can have meaningful impact, a carbon-zero plan that relies too heavily on carbon credits can place unintended pressure on agriculture, limiting the ability of farmers to be carbon neutral themselves, as well as driving up the prices of food and land. Therefore, to lower environmental impact, step one should always be reducing emissions at the source.
