Extinct species
It's unbelievable that species are still becoming extinct.
COP 15 on Biodiversity that met in December 2022 pledged to increase the area under habitat protection laws, saying they agreed there should be effective conservation and management of at least 30 per cent of the world’s land, coastal areas and oceans by 2030. Currently, they say, 17 percent of land and 8 per cent of marine areas are under protection.
But motherhood statements like this made at COPS are still not enough, and the situation remains desperate despite the outcome of that COP.
All governments should include in their constitutions that, whatever it takes, enough land is preserved to keep any animals or birds that are under threat of extinction protected.
