Teach Social Media Manners
The basic courtesy we all use in life is missing in social media use.
An example I saw the other day was our local politician going on holiday. She sent a post on Facebook to say she was going on holidays and she wished everyone an safe and happy new year.
The comments section was full of vitriol. Comments such as' Make sure you don't come back', and 'yeah, leave the crime problems behind and f off', or words to that effect, repeated by hundreds of people.
About half people were nice, about half nasty.
In the street, that nasty percentage might be 5%.
Maybe lets teach kids to use social media sensitively and nicely as far as possible.
There will be many flow on effects, not least we might get more people putting their hands up to be politicians. That would be good for you and me. After all, someone has to do it, and the more choices we have, the better.
