We must lean into the circular economy in all aspects of life, but particularly in the context of our electronics! Electronic waste is growing disproportionately compared to other waste streams - unsurprising given our rapid uptake of new technologies. Obviously (hopefully…) most people know that used electronics shouldn’t end up in landfill as e-waste contains hazardous but also VALUABLE materials, that are in finite supply. Clearly the two(ish)-yearly buy-use-chuck cycle will get us into trouble and needs to be stepped away from. Thus the focus should be to create electrical products that consumers can upgrade themselves, with modular systems allowing replacement of certain parts as upgrades are required.
