Changes to the way airlines manage baggage allowances
How often do you pack unnecessary things into your suitcase because you know you have a 20 kg allowance to fill? This additional weight leads to additional emissions. Did you know that 50% of total carbon emissions come from fuel burned during take-off and landing, for which weight is the main contributing factor? To reduce the amount of luggage on planes, the system of luggage allowance should be pay-as-you-need. This would reduce the number of unnecessary items people pack when travelling and when employed on a global scale, have a real impact on reducing some of the hundreds of millions of tonnes of CO2 emitted by the airline aviation industry each year.
