Fake (actually make that "No") News

On 20 October 2022 the top UN climate expert provided an update on the state of global emissions: “We are still nowhere near the scale and pace of emission reductions required to put us on track toward a 1.5 degrees Celsius world,” Simon Stiell, executive secretary of UN Climate Change, said in a statement. “To keep this goal alive, national governments need to strengthen their climate action plans now and implement them in the next eight years. Government decisions and actions must reflect the level of urgency, the gravity of the threats we are facing, and the shortness of the time we have remaining to avoid the devastating consequences of runaway climate change.” In fact global emissions are accelerating and not reducing. I know this did not make my local TV news. I am guessing it may not have made yours.? My guess is also that it did not make your social media news, either, unless you had already demonstrated a passion for the topic of climate change to your presiding algorithm. So what this means is - people are not hearing what they need to hear if they are to take drastic action. And so no drastic action will be taken. So my idea is that all local news services and broader social media news services need to work harder to include in their news the shocking but true constantly terrifying and apocalyptic message: that scientists have confirmed we need to take drastic action or runaway climate change will destroy our societies.
