Projecting our spherical world into a 2D image will always be imperfect. However, our current mainstream map projections are inherently biased to a Northern Hemisphere, Euro-Centric viewpoint. This unduly influences our perception of the world. Consider the portrayal of Africa in the most commonly used map projection, Mercator, compared with it’s real geographical occupation of our planet. It’s visual minimisation unconsciously biases us against African countries. More variety in maps would highlight these differences and shake up our world ‘view’. Bring in mainstream South is up maps and polyhedrals (Cahill butterfly, Tetrahedrons)!
