The science Nobel prizes (in chemistry, physics, medicine and economics) serve an important function - recognising the highest level of achievement of individuals and identifying institutions that are elite in science disciplines. They serve this purpose excellently. But in the last few decades there has been a vast expansion of new sub-disciplinaries and perhaps these should be recognised too. Expanding the existing categories will give room to recognise more achievements. Recognising achievements is good! For example, we know the next few decades will see computing scientists worthy of this honour. Perhaps it's time to expand the stage for them!
