Increase transparency in the food industry
This is particularly applicable to animal products, but supermarket food products should be more transparent about their supply chains. For example, France recently passed legislation saying that packaged foods containing meat and milk (8% and 50% respectively) need to include Country of Origin Labelling (COOL). For meat products, the label must detail the country of birth, rearing, and slaughter. Greater regulation to increase transparency, including use of hormone treatments etc., will give people the agency to make more positive food choices. Areas of positive impact include animal welfare and the environment.
