Since most of the diverse forests are located in lower income countries, it’s essential that we take a shared responsibility to protect forests globally (rather than countries taking responsibility only for their own). The diverse ecosystems that we lose and have lost by deforestation are not so easily made up for by planting new trees. Responsibility to protect these ecosystems should be shared globally regardless of where they are located geographically.
