There is an argument that space exploration is a waste of money in these times when all dollars need to be spent here on earth to fix things up. But just because the James Webb Telescope cost 10 billion to send into space doesn't mean we actually sent 10 billion into space. OK we might have sent a few million dollars in materials to space. But that 10 billion dollars is still circulating in our global economy, for example, buying toys made in Bangladesh for the children of engineering consultants, maybe?
