Better methods for donating edible food waste

A new law in San Diego will see grocery stores/food suppliers required to donate edible waste to food rescue organisations and the like. This seems like a no-brainer, but unfortunately isn’t. In practice, implementation can be challenging and resource heavy. Perhaps we should be investing more in organisations that assist with the process; acquiring, storing (incl freezing, if applicable), monitoring use-by dates, and distributing the food to those in need. Funding such processes addresses two global challenges: feeding those in need, and minimising the effects of food waste on the environment.
