Much remains unknown about the SARS-CoV-2 variant of concern. We hope it results in less serious disease and preliminary data from South Africa might indicate this, but even if it is more mild, it’s significantly increased transmission rate means it can still have catastrophic effects. We should act on what we do know: that a third dose offers significantly increased protection from disease transmission.
