In the last month or so, it has become increasingly apparent that herd immunity caused by Covid infection is not a thing. For example, in Iran, the average infection rate is over 200% insome provinces, as people without vaccines are being infected more than once. It is increasingly apparent that vaccination and only vaccination is crucial to any society being free and healthy. Western countries need to act on this new information. They need to double down efforts to help countries that have low vaccination rates. Commitments made six months ago based on best guesses as to how things would pan out need to be reconfigured. More help needs to be given to less developed countries right now. When the science changes, so do our obligations to help each other.
