Sickness and new cultural norms around work

Given seasonal flu kills around 650,000 people annually, one lesson from Covid may be that we need a cultural shift away from attending work when sick. For so many people, presenteeism is something to be proud of - the ability to battle on at work through sickness or injury. But maybe a new norm after Covid should be encouraged to stay - to keep away from work with any flu- like symptoms. Who knows how many chains of transmission we have personally been involved in where people have died of the flu (ok that sounds a bit scary, sorry about that). I am not advocating prosecuting people who go wo work with a flu or similar virus, once this is over. But maybe populations could (or have we been?) nudged to just stay away from work when we have the sniffles, even once the pandemic is gone.
