Lower barrier to donating food
Pick-up services should be offered to people donating food. A system as such could be integrated into existing rideshare or delivery services. A government subsidy (plus some charity work by these large corps?) could mean drivers are paid for their time and the system does not rely on volunteers.
However, I am willing to bet many people would volunteer to be a part of this. People do want to help. Imagine an app that matches a donor site with a nearby foodbank and lets people nearby know that they can help. Or perhaps a business has a predictable surplus and someone opts to collect and transfer some of this say once a fortnight on their way home from work.
Australians throw out millions of tonnes of food every year. Yet ~1/3 households experience food insecurity.
Not to mention the 3% of national ghg emissions that come from our food waste...
Time to innovate for the good of the people and the planet!
