  • I object because advertising helps people make a living. I think there should be stringent policing of advertising so we are not exposed to advertising that is not in peoples best interests.

  • People are significantly less likely to know what products are available to buy if it's illegal to publicise them.

  • Not banned (I still need to know what exists plus it pays for alot of services.) But regulated to keep if from being to influential.

  • Turn off the TV? I don't like Propaganda at all, it bugs me so much to see a BILLBOARD(Hint:Not on TV) endorsing beer with Military Combatants hugging their wife. What is that all about? They're supposed to be serving our country, not telling people to screw up their liver. I'm not sure I mind the fact that it affects people's decisions, because that was it's initial purpose but it shouldn't help people make a living. They should be able to go to the store and look at all the products for themselves. There was a commercial once, saying High Fructose Corn Syrup wasn't anything to worry about, that is was the same as Cane Sugar. No, no, no. Cane Sugar is bleached Sugar while High Fructose Corn Syrup is modified Glucose. Sure, they're relatively similar but still. Gum and pop commercials never say anything about the Aspartame test results. It's biased. AND I hate listening to a couple good songs on the radio and 15 minutes of commercials following it. My advice is don't expect both sides of the story from anywhere but your own research.

  • Banning advertising is drastically limiting free expression and free enterprise at the same time. The alternative to advertising is increased socialism, and in the first place you're arguing people are weak-minded and should be "governed" for their thinking by the government instead of businesses. That is worse, one, and two yes people will be influenced by advertising extremely in some cases without realizing it, but would you also eliminate government propaganda (i.e., the country's understanding of its own history, somewhat watered-down in a very pro-government way, done everywhere to the best of my knowledge if not you'll be doing me a favor to discuss with me what yours is), the excessive weight of scholars and officials in terms of what is believed to be good, etc. if you take a hint? No inhibitions on freedom of expression! It's fair enterprise!

  • Advertising, is often so subtle now it would be difficult to know what constitutes it. What do you think this site may contribute to advertising ?

  • I object because, If advertising were banned then how would my voice of positive ideas be heard? Just because some advertisements influence people negatively does not mean we must do away with all. People need to learn self control and the ability to see positive impacts from negative.

  • I object because, while advertising can be abused by big companies, it one of the key ways small businesses can make profit. Furthermore, from an amusement approach, it is undeniable that a "good add" can be quite entertaining.

  • Advertising can also be educational. Not all advertising is done in a negative fashion. People need to be more responsibile for their choices. That is not the government's responsibility. It is the responsibility of the individual to controll what they allow to influence their decisions.

  • People look when the need something. I'm tired of having everyone waving their random useless trash in my face and telling me it's a good idea. It's not a good idea.

  • No and spam should be legal too as long as its just an email

  • I object because advertising is only as influential, as we allow it to be through what we teach our children as to what is accepted as correct, the advertisers can really do whatever they want advertise wise, heck show me some good looking women (sorry I am a guy) in an advert i may look at it for an extra second, but it will not get me to buy the product if it sucks.

  • Haahahha. I'm not too bright today. Great post!

  • Disagree with a ban on advertising, but much better regulations are needed. They need to stop being so gimmicky & trying to brainwash us into buying their crap & just simply informative, i.e. 'This deodorant will stop you smelling of BO & you might actually like the smell. It won't, however, help you be a better human being or get lots of random woman to chase you."

  • Advertising is a way for corporations to convince consumers that their product is superior to that of a competitor. Although a high percentage of ads may contain biased and/or misleading information, they also help to better inform the consumer and promote a more competitive market, which is the most effective method of guaranteeing quality.
