Trees

It is well-understood that trees absorb carbon dioxide over their lifetime, but then release it back to the atmosphere when they die. Let us assume the average lifespan of a tree is 30 years. Given that we are around 30 years from becoming a world economy no longer reliant on fossil fuels, would not planting trees now, en masse, be a useful stop gap in our fight to stop climate change?
