People should not base how they live their lives on books written thousands of years ago. People should be open-minded to new ideas. People should also be logical and use reason when making decisions rather than having an emotional reaction.

  • People should however respect religion in its moderate form and be respected in there freethinking opinions.

  • @babelfish Good point. I agree with you. I just don't like how people try to tell others how to live their lives, without really thinking about what they are saying. Yes, people should have the right to practice moderate religion. It's just that people should think about what they believe before trying to force it on others.

And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time. T.S. Eliot

It's ludicrous to believe that todays interpretations of the Bible resemble the first Christians interpretations. Maybe in a thousand years people will still be arguing over whether Luke Skywalker existed. It really misses the point.

But being a free thinker also means being open to old ideas. The renaissance may not have happened if it were not for the Ancient Greeks.

  • Why we let our ideas compete, instead of joining groups from different parts of the same idea.

  • When I consider your comment as an amendment to your original statement, it becomes a perfect proposal. Know what you teach before you preach it! How many "Christians" have read the Bible?

  • I object because humanity will not learn without being aware of its past mistakes.

  • I thought finding this would be so arduous but it's a beezre!

  • Without reason and a feeling of altruism naturally wanting to be shared with each other here in our isolated speck on this rock lost in space, we are in danger of falling into a philosophy that renders us mute on the borg ship lost to ourselves and reality as a whole, FOREVER!!!

  • Don't forget how thought is becoming a reflex, answers can only come from within. Stop keeping breath from my soul.

  • Does "Das Kapital" count as a book written thousands of years ago?
