Built to last

An idea that brands should get in trouble for building things that don't last. So many items, like chargers, break not long after getting them. My idea is that manufacturers should specify how long their items are expected to last. Many people wouldn't go for the cheaper option if they knew it would break and they would just need to buy another! And then, customers can report (file in a system somewhere) when they don't last the expected time. Companies should face penalties if they are continually failing to deliver their specified lifetimes. An idea for consumer transparency really, that could prevent a lot of unnecessary waste if properly executed. :)
